OK, so it’s the end of the 2nd week of January. I went out on Sunday 1/3 but it was too cold, gray, and dreary. I took a few images, but don’t think it really counts as a photo walk. This weekend I had a head cold and NyQuil has been a sweet sleeping buddy.
All is not lost though. I have an assignment for my class this week which will force me to get out on Monday or Tuesday. If I go out at night, I think the theme will be Neon. If during the day, it will be something in the Medical Center near work. That will get me one photo walk down and with the Houston Photography Club Meet-up at the Battleship Texas next weekend, I will only be one photo walk behind schedule.
Better weather and health permitting I should get caught up soon.
Photo walks are about the only way I take photos. I rarely take studio shots or portraiture, etc. My apartment just isn’t that interesting. I have an advantage in that I love architecture and history and being a big old tourist in my city so that almost always gets me out somewhere. These are some of the resources I use.
- Artshound is a good resource for things going on in the city especially special events, festivals, etc.
- Greater Houston Preservation Alliance has monthly walking tours of the city and they just opened up a Flickr group.
- The Orange Show has fascinating tours throughout the year that are always fun for photos.
- There is a Photowalks Group at Meetup.com that has all kinds of fascinating meet-ups. This is the one on the list I haven’t had a chance to do yet but really want to.
- And someday that person running the Assignment Houston website will get her act together and begin posting weekend roundups on a regular basis for other ideas to get out with your camera.
Thanks Laurie, same for my house and add to that I am a TV-holic and my camera gets little attention at home.
The GHPA sounds like a great place to check out and I’ve no doubt that the Assignment Houston website will be picking up.
TV-holic? Are you my long lost twin! LOL.
