I’ve got a couple of things planned for this month. I want to do some focused technical exercises on depth of field and shutter speed. I’ve done some practice in the past but I want to plan subjects and compositions and really concentrate on creating technically and artistically competent images using some techniques I’ve learned since my first efforts.
I have a couple of photo walks planned with Greater Houston Preservation Alliance:

- Glenwood Cemetery Walking Tour 2/27
I have a class on 2/20 and 2/21 at Houston Center for Photography with Magnum photographer Eli Reed that I am really looking forward to.
There’s also a festival in Sugar Land later this month for the Indian celebration of Holi. I am trying to get confirmation on dates. One source says 2/28, another says 2/20 (which would conflict with my HCP class).
Assignment Houston has an interesting subject this month: Black and White. I am going to take some digital images in monochrome, and shoot some black and white film as well. Shooting the film will give me a chance to use my film camera and force me to spend some time with the scanner.
I’m bummed that I will miss both of this month’s GHPA’s tours. I’m coming back from an out of town trip on the first one and I’m working (on a Saturday boo!) on the second. The tours are not designed as photowalks, but I always get interesting photos. In fact my GHPA set is one of the biggest sets I have on Flickr. The thing I like about the tours is that not only do I learn about interesting architecture and hear interesting stories, but I use it almost like a scouting trip. I see places that are interesting that I can go back to when I’m on my own.

Sorry you’re working on Saturdays so often. I had a feeling they were’nt so much photowalks as walking tours as the names imply, but I had excatly the same thought as you – to scope out and go back later. I enjoy history too so it’ll be fun and if I get a few shots then my basic photowalk mission is accomplished.
